Fronted by Swedish-American songwriter William Chee-Awai, The Chee-Awai is a Berlin-based indie-psych-folk band known for combining guitar-driven grooves with story-telling lyrics. After moving from his home in the north of Sweden to Berlin, Chee-Awai self-produced the EP Spirits in the Candle Light and the full-length album The Land of Thirst, collaborating with musicians from the city’s multicultural underground scene. The current line-up of The Chee-Awai brings together an international mix of players: Doga Büyükcan (Turkey) on bass, Hans Scharffenorth (Venezuela) on keyboards, and Dorian Zeihm (USA) on drums. Together they channel influences from classic and psychedelic rock, folk, funk, and jazz into a sound that feels both vintage and new dynamic live sets where hypnotic riffs meet improvisational freedom. When Chee-Awai performs solo, he delivers raw acoustic sets, with an emphasis on his storytelling and fingerpicked guitar parts. The Chee-Awai has become part of the city’s DIY scene. The band is currently preparing the release of a new single called “Traveling Times”, and they’re finishing their second album, title to be announced. They are seeking venues and festival slots across Europe from December 2025 – May 2027
